Saturday welcomed us with lovely sunshine and a glorious day filled with exciting activities! Lindsey, our FJV support, took us on a more general tour of the city (in two groups) and I must say, I think I’m starting to get my bearings in Bridgeport (almost). Nicknamed the Park City, Bridgeport has a lot of city parks throughout different neighborhoods and of all different sizes. We even have a park a few blocks of our house!
So another fun fact about the city is that back in the day, P.T. Barnum, who is most famous for founding the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, is from Bridgeport and has actually donated a lot to the city. He even lived in a house that apparently had a giant elephant statue in the front yard! There’s even a P.T. Barnum museum that is on our list to visit this year!

Lindsey also drove us through the city of Fairfield again that borders Bridgeport, and like I mentioned previously, the affluence of wealth is immediately tangible the second you cross the bridge over the small river that separates the two cities. Although Fairfield is complete with beautiful homes, adorable shops, and the gorgeous Jesuit school campus of Fairfield University, it’s still frustrating to see such distinct differences in the neighboring cities.
At the end of our city excursion, Lindsey took us to see her old JV house that was conveniently next to an Italian ice shop.

Later in the day, while two of the girls had to drive down to Brooklyn to drop off another JV’s luggage that we had with us, the rest of us walked the few blocks down to see Beardsley Park and Zoo. It was absolutely the perfect day to explore the park by foot and check out possible running paths for future exercise adventures.

When the girls finally returned from their short Brooklyn trip, we decided to all relax and watch the epically amazing musical, Newsies. Because of the long week of endless information, we all ended up falling asleep. It was a pretty hilarious scene as the climax of the movie hit and all eyes were either drooping or had been asleep four minutes into the movie (aka, Annie). At the same time, it was rather comforting to know that we were all not only exhausted from the day, but from all the new changes and overwhelming sea of information. I think that if we weren’t experiencing all these things together, the dynamics of the house would definitely be different. I’m so thankful for each of these girls in the house, because without one, our balance would be off; each one of us has our own unique and brilliant puzzle piece that when fit together, are complete.
